PERF Benefits Team Honored by Governor
Third Governor's Award in 15 Months for PERF
INDIANAPOLIS (May 9, 2007) - For the third time in 15 months, employees of the Indiana Public Employees' Retirement Fund (PERF) have been honored by Governor Mitch Daniels with the Governor's Public Service Achievement Award.
Recognized May 9 were 15 members of PERF's Retirement Benefits team who were instrumental in a dramatic turnaround in customer service involving PERF retirees.
"When new management arrived in March 2005, PERF was able to pay less than 5 percent of new retirees within 30 days of their retirement, and there was a backlog of several months," said Executive Director David Adams. "The team created tough new processing standards and then worked nights and weekends to get the job done. As of December 2006, 100 percent of retirements were processed without an interruption in pay. I'm happy to report that the quarter ending March 31 produced the same results."
The 15 PERF employees honored Wednesday were among 47 state workers honored by Governor Daniels. Retirement Benefits team members awarded include Steven Barley, Randy Gillespie, Lataisha Dickerson, Derek Walling, Kathy King, Rita Brown, Tom Christman, Irvin Stuart, Jennifer Mayer, Karen Bymaster, Katherine Miner, Vonda Arnold, Alice Williams, Eric England and Roxanne King.
This award recognizes state employees who have made a significant contribution to advancing the objectives of improving government efficiency and customer service, demonstrated through measurable results.
In February 2006, PERF staff attorney Will Frayer received the governor's award and in August 2006, PERF's Distributions Department was honored by the governor.
The Public Employees' Retirement Fund (PERF) is a $16.4 billion retirement fund headquartered in Indianapolis that serves the needs of more than 220,000 public employees and retirees throughout Indiana.
