OCRA > Indiana Main Street > Levels of Participation Levels of Participation

Please review the criteria for the levels of participation within the Indiana Main Street program.

Nationally Accredited Community Criteria

  1. Gathered broad-based public/private support for the commercial district revitalization process, with strong support from both the public and private sectors.
  2. Established vision and mission statements relevant to community conditions and to the local Main Street program's organizational stage.
  3. Completed a Comprehensive Main Street Work Plan.
  4. Active in implementing each of the Main Street Four Point Approach principles (Design, Economic Restructuring, Promotion and Organization).
  5. Uphold a strong historic preservation ethic.
  6. Established board of directors and committees for each of the Four Point principles.
  7. Established operating budget to fully support the Main Street program.
  8. Have a paid, professional program manager on staff to oversee the local Main Street activities.
  9. Continuous professional development training for staff and volunteers.
  10. Reported reinvestment, rehabilitation, job market growth, and other statistics requested from Indiana Main Street and National Main Street.
  11. Program manager participates in "intermediate" training sessions hosted by Indiana Main Street.
  12. Became and stayed a concurrent member of the National Main Street Center.

State Designated Program Criteria

  1. Community operates with either a paid or a volunteer staff that oversees the local Main Street activities.
  2. Active in implementing each of the Main Street Four Point Approach principles (Design, Economic Restructuring, Promotion and Organization).
  3. Established board of directors and committees, representing each of the Four Point principles.
  4. Submitted an annual report to Indiana Main Street.
  5. At least one Main Street representative attends two networking forums or workshops hosted by Indiana Main Street each year.
  6. Program manager participates in "intermediate" training sessions hosted by Indiana Main Street.
  7. Continued concentration on implementing the program's established action and work plans.
  8. Reported reinvestment, rehabilitation, job market growth, and other statistics requested from Indiana Main Street and National Main Street.
  9. Working toward meeting criteria for National Accreditation status.

Active Program Criteria

  1. Community expressed an interest in the program and hosted an introductory presentation on the Main Street program.
  2. Established volunteer organization to begin implementing each of the Main Street Four Point Approach principles (Design, Economic Restructuring, Promotion and Organization).
  3. Established committees to begin formulating work plans for each of the Four Point principles.
  4. Created a vision, mission, and vision statement for the community's Main Street program.
  5. Program manager and volunteers interested in Main Street attended an introductory workshop hosted by Indiana Main Street.
  6. Working toward meeting criteria for State Designation status.
