Levels of Participation
Please review the criteria for the levels of participation within the Indiana Main Street program.
Nationally Accredited Community Criteria
- Gathered broad-based public/private support for the commercial district revitalization process, with strong support from both the public and private sectors.
- Established vision and mission statements relevant to community conditions and to the local Main Street program's organizational stage.
- Completed a Comprehensive Main Street Work Plan.
- Active in implementing each of the Main Street Four Point Approach principles (Design, Economic Restructuring, Promotion and Organization).
- Uphold a strong historic preservation ethic.
- Established board of directors and committees for each of the Four Point principles.
- Established operating budget to fully support the Main Street program.
- Have a paid, professional program manager on staff to oversee the local Main Street activities.
- Continuous professional development training for staff and volunteers.
- Reported reinvestment, rehabilitation, job market growth, and other statistics requested from Indiana Main Street and National Main Street.
- Program manager participates in "intermediate" training sessions hosted by Indiana Main Street.
- Became and stayed a concurrent member of the National Main Street Center.
State Designated Program Criteria
- Community operates with either a paid or a volunteer staff that oversees the local Main Street activities.
- Active in implementing each of the Main Street Four Point Approach principles (Design, Economic Restructuring, Promotion and Organization).
- Established board of directors and committees, representing each of the Four Point principles.
- Submitted an annual report to Indiana Main Street.
- At least one Main Street representative attends two networking forums or workshops hosted by Indiana Main Street each year.
- Program manager participates in "intermediate" training sessions hosted by Indiana Main Street.
- Continued concentration on implementing the program's established action and work plans.
- Reported reinvestment, rehabilitation, job market growth, and other statistics requested from Indiana Main Street and National Main Street.
- Working toward meeting criteria for National Accreditation status.
Active Program Criteria
- Community expressed an interest in the program and hosted an introductory presentation on the Main Street program.
- Established volunteer organization to begin implementing each of the Main Street Four Point Approach principles (Design, Economic Restructuring, Promotion and Organization).
- Established committees to begin formulating work plans for each of the Four Point principles.
- Created a vision, mission, and vision statement for the community's Main Street program.
- Program manager and volunteers interested in Main Street attended an introductory workshop hosted by Indiana Main Street.
- Working toward meeting criteria for State Designation status.
