The Emergency Food Assistance Program The Emergency Food Assistance Program

The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) is administered federally by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to provide needy people with emergency food and nutrition assistance.  USDA purchases and ships food to state programs, based on the low-income and unemployed populations in that state. State agencies, like OCRA, are responsible for the administration and distribution of the food to local organizations, which either directly serve the public (such as food pantries) or supply other organizations that directly serve the public (such as food banks).

For more information about TEFAP, please visit http://www.fns.usda.gov/fdd/programs/tefap/default.htm.
