The Division of Hearings serves the Natural Resources Commission in the performance of its various statutory responsibilities. The most prominent of these responsibilities are for adjudications and rule adoptions. The Division also assists the Advisory Council, a board which provides advice to the Commission and to the Department of Natural Resources.

The Division is an active participant in the development of Indiana standards for the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River Basin Water Resources Compact.

Primarily as a result of recent decisions by the Court of Appeals of Indiana, the Division is reviewing and considering amendments to Information Bulletin #56, Riparian Zones in Public Waters.

With the enactment of P.L. 84-2008 (codified primarily at IC 14-20-2-2.5), the Division and the Office of Environmental Adjudication are pursuing joint rules to allow for the consolidation of proceedings in disputes involving water quality or water quantity, where the Department of Natural Resources and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management may have overlapping jurisdiction.  For more information, please see current rule proposals.

If you have comments, suggestions, or questions concerning any of these initiatives, please contact Stephen Lucas.
