Indiana Authors Award Names 2012 Finalists, Winners

Indiana Authors AwardThe Indianapolis Public Library Foundation recently named winners and finalists for the 2012 Eugene & Marilyn Glick Indiana Authors Award. The National Author category will go to Hoosier author John Green, along with a $10,000 prize. Barbara Shoup has been named as the winner in the Regional Author category, earning her a $7,500 prize. Christopher Coake, Sherri Wood Emmons and Douglas Light have been named as finalists in the Emerging Author category. The winner, who will be announced at the Award Dinner, will receive a $5,000 prize. Each winning author’s Indiana hometown public library will also receive a grant of $2,500 from the Library Foundation.

Additionally, for the first time in the award's history, the award panel chose to designate a Lifetime Achievement honoree and named author Dan Wakefield for this recognition. All will be honored at the Indiana Authors Award dinner and festivities on September 29, 2012 at the Central Library in Indianapolis.

The Indiana Authors Award recognizes the contributions of Indiana authors to the literary landscape in Indiana and across the nation. This annual award is a program of The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation and is funded through the generosity of The Glick Fund, a fund of Central Indiana Community Foundation. Nominations were submitted from across the state in early spring. Any published writer who was born in Indiana or has lived in Indiana for at least five years was eligible.

ALSC Institute Scholarship Applications Due Friday

ALSC National Institute

This Friday at midnight is the deadline to complete the online application for the Friends of the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) Institute Scholarship. Scholarship recipients must be personal or student ALSC members who work directly with children in a library setting. The scholarships include Institute registration; transportation to and from the Institute (up to $320); and two nights at the Sheridan Indianapolis City Centre where the Institute is being held.

While you must be an ALSC member to be eligible for the scholarship, non-members are also invited to attend the two-and-a-half-day workshop from September 20 – 22, 2012. In fact, non-ALSC members can receive a discount if they register before August 24, 2012.  The Institute is devoted solely to children’s and youth library services and offers attendees an intimate setting for participating in programming and networking with colleagues.

Visit the ALSC Institute online for a complete schedule of events, destination information, registration details and more.
