Libraries Encouraged to BE BIG in Your Community

Be Big in Your Community ContestBE BIG™ is a national campaign that invites everyone, big and small, to take action and raise awareness for how CLIFFORD'S BIG IDEAS (Share, Play Fair, Have Respect, Work Together, Be Responsible, Be A Good Friend, Help Others, Be Truthful, Be Kind, Believe In Yourself) can make the world a better place. The mission of BE BIG is to recognize and reward others for their BE BIG actions, to catalyze change in local communities and to provide resources for everyone to share BIG Ideas.

Clifford (the big red dog) welcomes volunteers, schools or community partners to enter for a chance to see their BIG Idea come to life with $75,000 in community grants! One (1) Grand Prize honoree, Ten (10) first place honorees and Nineteen (19) second place honorees will be selected. The grand prize entry will be honored with a $25,000 community grant, the first place honorees will each be honored with a $2,500 community grant and the second place honorees will each be honored with a $1,315.79 community grant (via HandsOn Network affiliate organizations or designees) from the BE BIG Fund to be used towards implementing the winning proposals.

Indiana Vision Expo/VisionWalk Coming this Fall

Indiana Vision Expo Coming this FallThis September 24th, the 2011 Indiana Vision Expo is expected to draw its largest crowd ever as it welcomes new partner Indiana VisionWalk. Already the Midwest's largest trade show connecting people with vision loss and their family and friends to assistive technology vendors and low-vision service providers, the new partnership with VisionWalk promises to bring record crowds for this unique day-long event. The VisionWalk kicks off the day's events at 9:00 a.m. (EDT) after which walkers and guests are invited to the Vision Expo at the Indiana State Library, located on the canal just steps from the VisionWalk headquarters tent.

The Vision Expo has already secured commitments with dozens of exhibitors and vendors and expects several more in the coming months. The Indiana State Library looks forward to building on the success of previous Expo's, including the 2010 Indiana Vision Expo, which connected over 700 attendees to the latest in low vision technologies and services.
