2012 LSTA Grant Applications and Guidelines Now Available

LSTA Supports Indiana LibrariesThe 2012 LSTA Grant application materials are now available online. The State Library will offer the following types of sub-grants in 2012:

Technology Grants (due 2/10/12)
Tech Grants help Indiana libraries provide their users with the new and improved technology necessary to meet their residents’ ever-changing needs for library services and access to information. Visit the Technology Grants webpage to learn more.

Digitization Grants (due 2/10/12)
The  theme for the 2012 Digitization Grant Program is the approaching Indiana Bicentennial in 2016. This includes projects that focus on materials with statewide significance related to the Statehood Bicentennial. Types of materials may include (but are not limited to) contemporary letters, publications, diaries, images, and artifacts. While adherence to the theme is not required, projects incorporating this theme are encouraged.

Ongoing Grant Opportunities
Ongoing grants have rolling deadlines and applications and may be submitted at any time. This includes Innovative Library Technology Grants and Information Access for the Unserved Grants. Learn more on the open deadline LSTA grant opportunities webpage.

Essay Contest Winner Recognized at Annual Celebration

Statehood Day Essay ContestJacob Parrish said growing up in a farming community is the best life for him as he read his essay in front of a large crowd at the Statehood Day Ceremony at the Indiana Statehouse this afternoon.  The fourth-grader from Van Rensselaer Elementary School in Rensselaer also said that although he has been to Indianapolis before, it was his first time in the Statehouse and that he hopes to one day see a Colts game at Lucas Oil Stadium. Thanks to a special surprise, he need not wait long to see his first Colts game. State Representative Douglas Gutwein (R-Rensselaer) rewarded Jacob with four tickets for the Colts December 18th matchup versus the Tennessee Titans. In addition to Rep. Gutwein, Jacob accepted his award and other prizes from Indiana State Auditor Tim Berry, State Senator Jim Merritt, and Indiana Supreme Court Justice Steven David for winning the 2011 "What Indiana Means to Me" essay contest.

Three more students selected from over 2,200 entries were also recognized, including: 2nd Place: Dilhara Moonesinghe - Sycamore Elementary (Kokomo); 3rd Place: Xander Wilson - New Britton Elementary (Fishers); and Hon.; Mention: Nick Roberts - Sheridan Elementary School.

The first-place winner received a $300 College Choice 529 Scholarship, second-place a $200 and third place $100 scholarship from the Indiana State Treasurer. Each finalists' school library will receive a set of the Young Patriot Series Indiana Collection, which is donated annually by Patria Press.
