Library Leadership Academy Coming Back for 3rd Consecutive Year This spring, the Indiana State Library will be accepting applications for the 2014 Leadership Academy. This is a competitive selection process requiring completion of an online application, as well as submission of 3 professional reference letters. Selected applicants will be invited to a week-long learning opportunity with a keynote and local speakers and your colleagues in public, academic, school and special libraries. Participation involves a 3-year commitment to the program’s projects, meetings, and Professional Development Committee membership. Hotel accommodations (including breakfasts and lunches) are included in the $150 tuition. The State Library's Professional Development Committee established the Academy to prepare emerging library leaders for 21st-Century challenges. Future and current library leaders of all backgrounds, with all kinds of experience, and in all types of libraries are encouraged to apply for the 3rd-annual program. Black History Month Resources Available on INSPIRE Biography In Context offers dozens of unique and comprehensive resources for Black History Month and is available free through INSPIRE. The "African Americans" topic portal provides easy access to biographies on prominent African Americans associated with the arts, business, current events, entertainment, government, history, literature, multicultural studies, politics, science, and sports. Biography in Context delivers Gale's authoritative reference content of more than 600,000 biographies on more than 500,000 people gathered from more than 170 award-winning Gale reference sources. Most entries integrate enhanced content like video, audio, podcasts, interactives and more that provide a richer multi-media, online experience for today’s learners, educators and librarians. LSTA Grant Opportunities Focus on Technology, Bicentennial The Indiana State Library Development Office opened the application process for the 2014 LSTA grant program. The 2014 applications must be received by 4:00 PM EST on Friday, March 14th, 2014 and include the following opportunities for Indiana libraries and historical and cultural organizations:

Sign Up to Volunteer for PLA in Indy by Jan. 31st The PLA 2014 Conference is coming to Indianapolis March 11 – 14 and volunteers are being sought to serve as greeters, ambassadors, and more to ensure that out-of-state public library professionals get the most out of their experience. Volunteers who aren’t registered for the Conference can receive some enticing benefits courtesy of PLA. Simply complete the PLA Volunteer Interest Form and submit by January 31, 2014 to apply.
