Biographical Note:
Spear Spencer Tipton was born around 1814. He was a resident of Cass County, Indiana. His father, John Tipton, was a General at the Battle of Tippecanoe and served as a U.S. Senator from Indiana (1832-1839). Spear Spencer Tipton married Sarah Ann Wilson on February 5, 1834, and Harriet Gorsuch on October 8, 1843. He was a captain in the 1st Indiana Infantry and a first lieutenant in the 3rd U.S. Calvary.
