Biographical Note:
Charles H. Test was born on July 9, 1802, in Wilmington, Delaware. His family moved to Brookville, Indiana, around 1810. His father was John Test, an Indiana judge and U.S. Congressman. He was admitted to the bar in 1822. Test married Rebecca Davis in 1824. Test was elected to the State House of Representatives and served from 1826 to 1827. He served as president judge of the 6th circuit (1830-1836); State Senator (1840-1841); Indiana Secretary of State (1849-1853); judge of the 12th circuit (1857-1870); and Marion County criminal court judge (1872-1874). Test married his second wife, Elizabeth Moore, in 1842. He also wrote a novel called The Novice. Charles Test died on October 10, 1885.
