Robert M. Taylor, Jr. was deeply involved in the historical community in Indianapolis. He joined the Indiana Historical Society’s staff in 1978 and eventually served as director of the education division beginning in 1992. He was a member of many professional and historical organizations along with serving as secretary and newsletter editor of the Indiana Association of Historians and board member of the Friends of the Indiana State Archives. Taylor taught U.S. history classes at Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis and Kent State University in Ohio. Prior to teaching, Taylor was associate director at Upward Bound at Kent State and Coe College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Taylor was a distinguished scholar and contributor to many collegiate, historical and literary publications. Robert M. Taylor, Jr. died on October 14, 1999.
Scope and Content Note:
The collection contains personal correspondence of various family members, receipts related to properties the Y.W.C.A. owned and operated; a genealogical sketch of the Taylor family’s history, minutes of the Woman’s Home Missionary Society meetings, various broadsides, a single poll book from 1930 that lists voters and their political affiliation, and papers and scrapbooks of the Indianapolis branch of the Y.W.C.A.
