Biographical Note:
William Prince was born in Ireland in 1772. He married Thérèse Tremblé with whom he had six children. Prince had immigrated to the United States and settled in Knox County, Indiana, by 1800. He served in the Indiana militia and was a captain at the Battle of Tippecanoe in 1811. Prince was a delegate to the first Indiana Constitutional Convention in 1816. He held many public offices including Knox County sheriff (1800-1804), Indian Agent (1810-c.1811, 1818-1821), Gibson County prosecuting attorney (1813, 1819), first Circuit Court judge (1816-1817), first Circuit Court President Judge (1817-1818), member of the commission to locate the state capital (1820), and member of the State House of Representative (1821-1822). Prince was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1823 and served until his death on September 8, 1824. He is buried in the Old Cemetery near Princeton, Gibson County, Indiana.
