The J. H. Aufderheide & Co. was dedicated to publishing the works of Indiana ragtime musicians. John Henry Aufderheide, founder, began the company after his daughter, May Aufderheide, achieved great success with the ragtime classic, “Dusty Rag”. John Aufderheide supported local arts and organizations and believed that he could contribute to the new music scene by operating a music publishing company. J.H. Aufderheide & Co. became an important publisher of Indiana composers between 1908 and 1913.
