Biographical Note:
Ephraim Jordan was born in 1755 in Pennsylvania or Virginia. He served in the Virginia Frontier Militia and under Colonel George Rogers Clark at Kaskaskia and the capture of Fort Sackville (Vincennes) in 1779. Between the time he settled in Vincennes and the War of 1812, Jordan frequently served as an Indian Scout reporting Indian activities back to William Henry Harrison. In 1801, he was appointed judge of the Knox County Court of Common Pleas and justice of the Court of General Quarter Sessions by William Henry Harrison, the Governor of the Indiana Territory, but resigned the post a year later. Jordan was active in the Knox County militia from its forming until 1814 when he resigned with the rank of Colonel. During the Battle of Tippecanoe (1811), he served as Lieutenant Colonel Commandant of the 1st Regiment of the Knox County Militia. During the War of 1812, he commanded the 1st Regiment of the Indiana Militia. He was appointed to Knox County Commissioner on February 11, 1818, and held this post until his death on January 14, 1820.
