Organizational Note:

The Clio Club formed in 1878 as the Indianapolis Conversation Club #3.  Quaker women who wished to promote social and literary advancement created the organization.  In 1888, the group changed their name to the Friends History Club.  Once again, however, the organization changed its name in 1889 to the Clio Club.

 Scope and Content Note:

This collection consists of the minutes of the Clio Club from its first meeting in 1878 until 1937.  These records give information of member attendance and details about the meeting’s programming.  The second part of the collection are the programs for the Clio Club meetings from 1888-1935.  These give information on when and where the club will meet, as well as who will be presenting what topics at the meeting.
