Biographical Note:
Jerry Barker enlisted in Indianapolis in Company E as a Private in the 70th Indiana Regiment on July 31, 1862. Barker was discharged March 26, 1864.

This collection contains a series of letters written by Civil War soldier Jerry Barker to his brother, Joe, who was living in Indianapolis. The letters discuss daily life in a Union soldiers’ encampment and the economic difficulties of being a soldier.
