Biographical Note:
In the 1860s, both the Dean and Brooks families were living near Richland, Indiana. These families were united after the marriage of their children, Lillie Brooks and William Dean, in April 1893. William Dean worked for the post office. Together they had several children and spent the remainder of the lives in Greene County, Indiana.
Scope and Content Note:
This collection contains the papers of both the Dean and Brooks families, the majority of which are photocopies. Included is a poem by Eliza Brooks, entitled “The Willow Song”, the Civil War discharge papers of Alfred Brooks, a funeral invitations for Matilda Bradshaw, a letter written to friends by Sinnie, an obituary for George Ferris, a newspaper article regarding Carl Vrooman and two unidentified photographs. There are also two warranty deeds, a resolution of respect for Daniel Roush, a letter to Benjamin Brooks informing him of the death of his sister, a letter to Civil War pensioners regarding payment of their pensions, a marriage license for William Dean and Lillie Brooks, and a letter to William Dean that he was accepted as a mail carrier.
