Biographical Note:
Christopher S. Arthur was born in Ohio in 1832. On April 25, 1856, he married Nancy S. Bennett in Allen County, IN. Together they would have five children. For most of his adult life, Arthur lived and worked as a doctor and surgeon in Jay County, Indiana. On August 2, 1862, Arthur enlisted as a Captain with the 75th Indiana Infantry Regiment, Company F, where he worked as a surgeon. He resigned on September 11, 1864. Arthur died in 1898.

This collection includes Dr. Christopher Arthur’s medical account books. It also contains articles of association, by-laws, and minutes of the boards of the Equitable Accident and Mutual Aid Life Association or Portland.
