Biographical Note:

 Harvey Appleman was born September 28, 1872 in LaGrange County, Indiana.  His parents were Viola Ryan and Squire Appleman.  Mr.  Appleman married Rose Danielson, and later Florence Scott.  Mr.  Appleman attended Terre Haute Teachers College, Purdue University, the University of Chicago, Notre Dame University, and Ohio State University.  He taught public school in South Bend and Indianapolis, Indiana, as well as in Columbus, Ohio.  Mr.  Appleman also served as school principal in a number of Indiana communities including Lewis, Monon, South Milford, and Shipshewana.  He was also the principal at Manual Training School. 

 Scope and Content Note:

 This collection consists of the autobiography of Harvey M.  Appleman of LaGrange County, Indiana.  In his autobiography Mr.  Appleman discusses his life beginning with his birth in 1872 in Indiana.  Topics include farm life in northern Indiana in the late 1800ís, rural schools and teaching, experiences in logging camps in Sonoma County, California and LaGrange County, Indiana.  The journal includes an appendix of miscellaneous memories.
