Biographical Note:

Verna Gray Armstrong is a descendant of John Gray, a pioneer who settled in Lawrence County.    He was born to William and Lydia Gray in the 1760s in North Carolina.  He married a woman named Mary Trumbull in 1801.  Not long after, he moved his family to what would later be known as Indiana.  It is believed that he died in Springville, IN around 1857.

Scope and Content Note:

This oral history was done as part of a project undertaken by the Indiana Junior Historical Society.  The collection contains a transcript of the interview, in which Verna Gray Armstrong discusses the life of her ancestor, John Gray, who was a pioneer settler of Lawrence County.
