Benadum - Buskirk

Clarence Edward Benadum
7 June 1889 - 12 Nov. 1978

Clarence Benadum was born in Delaware County, Indiana. He ventured west for a time before returning to Delaware County and beginning his law career. Benadum was extremely active in the Muncie and Delaware County law communities throughout the remainder of his life. In his mid-forties, he published his first novel, Blackshirt (1935). The novel portrays Indiana political life in the early 1900s. Benadum did not publish his second, and final, novel until nearly twenty years later. Bates House (1951), is an historical novel set in Indiana during the Civil War. Abraham Lincoln addressed a crowd at Bates House during a trip to Washington, D.C. Benadum also wrote a prose poem titled The Trial of Bill Jones (1967).

Albert Jeremiah Beveridge
6 Oct. 1862 - 27 Apr. 1927

Albert Beveridge was born in Highland County, Ohio. After graduating from Indiana Asbury College (now DePauw University), Beveridge began practicing law in Indianapolis, Indiana. He served six terms in the U.S. Senate (1899-1910).  After leaving office, he returned to Indianapolis to pursue his literary and historical interests. Beveridge was a prolific writer with one of his most ambitious projects being a four volume biography of John Marshall.

Samuel Hamilton Buskirk
19 Jan. 1820 - 3 Apr. 1879

Samuel H. Buskirk was born in New Albany, Indiana. He practiced law in Monroe County, Indiana, after graduating from Indiana University. He served five terms in the Indiana House of Representatives. In 1859, he was appointed Director of the Indiana State Prison. From 1870 to 1876, he sat on the Indiana Supreme Court. During his final year on the bench, he published his only work--a legal treatise recording cases heard by the Indiana Supreme Court and decisions rendered among other details.
