Lt. Col. G. E. Goodwin Photograph Collection, 1943-1945

Lt. Col. G. E. Goodwin was part of the G-5 section of the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force Team (SHAEF). SHAEF was established on February 13, 1944, as an integrated U.S.-British organization to carry out the invasion of Europe. The G-5 section handled civilian affairs. SHAEF was formally dissolved in July 1945.

The majority of Lt. Col. Goodwin's photographs cover Great Britain, France, and Germany. The bulk of his British photographs are of tourist attractions such as Piccadilly Circus and Big Ben, with only a few showing bombed buildings. His photographs on the European continent focus on the destruction caused by the war. Only 44 of Lt. Col. Goodwin's 369 photographs are featured here. (see Finding Aides)
