George A. Scott was born in 1862 in Indiana. On June 29, 1892, Scott married Jennie Bell, in Vigo County, Indiana. The couple had four children. He became a lawyer and had his own practice. In 1956, he was the Dean of Terre Haute Attorneys. Scott was a director of the Vigo County Historical Society and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. He was also a member of the Merchants Savings Association. Scott died in January 1964.

This collection consists of the business history of Terre Haute, read by George A. Scott, before the Vigo County Historical Society on April 10, 1934. He discussed the banks, the use of gold and silver, electric railways, widening roads, newspapers, the Joseph Strong building, and the Union Passenger Station, as well as the Post Office.
