The collection contains papers sold by Elizabeth Bevington, Terre Haute, Indiana to the State Library. The letters are chiefly from the Johnson family from the Centerberg, Ohio area. The correspondence is mainly to Hannah Johnson, and is from George Johnson, Amos Johnson, Susan her sister, and L.M. Jones. The rest of correspondence is centered on relatives from Hamilton County, Indiana. They include Sarah F. Baker, Ann Sunberry, Frances Hussey, Carl Hussey, and Sadie Hill.
Information Found within Collection
This collection consists of letters to Hannah Johnson from George Johnson, 65th Ohio Regiment and Amos Johnson, 4th Ohio Regiment. Also included are other Civil War letters from Hamilton County and the 46th Indiana Regiment. The collection also has school papers, teachers’ licenses, a certificate from the State House Building Association, certificates of the Mapel Oil Company, Terre Haute, Indiana and advertisements for lectures and theatrical performances in the area.
