Biographical Note:

David Wallace was born on April 24, 1799, near Lewistown, Pennsylvania. His family moved to Brookville, Indiana, in 1817. He graduated from West Point in 1821. Wallace was admitted to the bar in 1824 and practiced law in Indiana. He served as a member of the State House of Representatives (1828-1830); Lieutenant Governor of Indiana (1831-1837); Governor of Indiana (1837-1840); and a member of the U.S. House of Representatives (1841-1843). He moved to Indianapolis and resumed his law practice. Wallace was a delegate to the state constitutional convention in 1850 and served as judge of the court of common pleas of Marion County from 1856 until his death on September 4, 1859. He is buried in Crown Hill Cemetery (Indianapolis).
