The Poplar Ridge Horse Thief and Detective Company operated in the Carmel, Hamilton County area; it was associated with other horse thief detective associations in Indiana, which were active from the early 1850’s through the 1920’s as officially recognized vigilante groups.
Information Found within Collection
The collection contains meeting minutes (1910-1925), membership record books (1875-1895 &1900-1910), a certificate of appointment (1906), a badge from the National Horse Thief Detective Association, as well as other member and administrative materials.
