Biographical Note:

John R. Simpson was the son of attorney A.J. Simpson of Paoli, Orange County,  attended Westfield Academy in Massachusetts (1852 – 1855). Simpson worked as a businessman in Paoli, Davenport, Iowa, and New York State.

Scope and Content:

The collection consists primarily of letters to Simpson from family and friends in Paoli while he was a student in Massachusetts (1852 – 1855). Also included are other family letters to Simpson (1851 – 1875), and business papers of the Campbell family of Paoli (1822 – 1850s).
