Biographical Note:

Romena Oehler Elder, daughter of Civil War veteran Roman Oehler, lived in Indianapolis and Greenwood, Johnson County, Indiana most of her life. Elder married Marion G. Elder, who was an Indianapolis florist. She owned a jewelry store and managed property in Indianapolis and Greenwood. Her family home, which she later owned, was the Hanna-Oehler-Elder home, which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The house is located at the intersection of Hannah Ave. and South Meridian St. Alexander Hannah, former member of the Indiana General Assembly, was the original property owner.

Scope and Content Note:

The collection consists principally of account books and financial records of the Indianapolis jewelry store she owned and the Greenwood property managed by Romena Elder. The collection also contains personal papers and family accounts. Included are papers and accounts of Alexander M. Hannah (1821 – 1895), a farmer who resided in Marion County, and letters of Ingram Fletcher regarding land speculation in the Orlando, Florida area (1884 – 1888).
