Joshua Leach was a secretary and financial agent for the Cincinnati and Indianapolis Junction Railroad Company in the 1850s and 1860s, based in Connersville, Fayette County, Indiana.
Information found within the collection.
The collection consists of correspondence to Joshua Leach’s brother James, who was a lawyer in Stamping Ground and New Castle, Kentucky. The correspondence covered politics, business transactions (railroad and land), and family matters. In addition, the collection also includes letters from Leach’s relatives in Weatherford, Texas (1860 – 1861) and Natchez, Mississippi (1867 – 1868).
The collection contains business papers of the Cincinnati and Indianapolis Junction Railroad Company and leach’s personal land matters. The papers relate to purchases, appraisal of land, company finances, lawsuits, and other legal and financial issues (1853 – 1867). The collection also contains an account booklet of 1853 and papers regarding land in Union County, Indiana (1831 – 1838).
