The Zig Zag Cycle Club was a social cycling club from 1890 to 1896. The original club meeting was held at the Hay and Willits Bicycle Shop located on Washington St. opposite the Statehouse with roughly a dozen members present. The club, which was a member of the nation League of American Wheelman, promoted bicycle outings and races, provided social activities for cyclists, and lobbied on behalf of better roads. At the club’s height, the Zig Zag Cycle Club had nearly 200 members, but popularity quickly dwindled and the club disbanded in 1896.
