Biographical Note:

James C. Vanderbilt was a plaster in New Albany, Floyd and Harrison County, Indiana, and served as a private in the 23rd IN during the Civil War.
Scope and Content Note:

The collection consists of Vanderbilt’s Civil War letters to his mother and aunt in New Albany, IN, written while serving in Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia.
