Biographical or Historical Note / Organizational History:

Margaret E. Bruner was an Indiana poet and columnist. Margaret was born on September 25, 1886 in Crawford County, Indiana. Her parents were Vardsmon David and Henrietta Shannon Baggerly. Margaret married Vate Bruner on October 7, 1916, and spent most of her life in New Castle, Indiana. Bruner died on April 28, 1971. By the time of her death, she had written twelve books of poetry, as well as lyrics for several songs, and wrote a weekly column for the News Republican out of New Castle from 1946 to 1970. 

Scope and Content Note:

Collection consists of business papers, family materials and photographs, correspondence, correspondence with publishing companies, typed poems, poems found in newspapers and magazines, and 12 hardcover poem books by Bruner (6 of which are signed). The books were transferred to the Indiana Division of Indiana State Library.
