Biographical Note:

The Anderson family genealogy begins with John Howe and Rachel Pindell.  Howe and Pindell were married on July 26, 1782 in Cat Fish Camp, Pennsylvania.  Howe, a sergeant during the Revolutionary War, moved to New Albany, Indiana in 1810 along with his wife.  While in New Albany, the Howe’s started their family and Howe eventually fathered fifteen children.  In 1834, John Howe settled in Lima, Indiana in Lagrange County.  In 1884, Lima was renamed Howe Village in honor of John Howe.

The author of the genealogy narrative, Joseph Edwin Howe, was born near Celina, Indiana, Perry County, May 18, 1886 to Abraham and Letitia Caroline Howe.  He received his elementary and high school education in Perry County, and went on to the Central Normal College located in Danville, Indiana where he received an L.L.B. degree in law.  After graduating, he practiced law for a few months and eventually attended the University of Wisconsin where he received an. M.A. in education.  In the following years, he taught school in Clark Township of Perry County, was superintendent of schools at Cannelton, Indiana, and later spent seven years as principal of schools at Chrisney, Indiana.  After his tenure at Chrisney, Howe moved to Evansville where he worked as a school administrator for thirty years before retiring.
