Organizational History:

The first regular meeting of the American Chemical Society was held May 4, 1876.  Subsequent reform efforts resulted in a modification to the organizational structure of the American Chemical Society.  These changes to the organizational structure allowed for the creation of a national chemical society that would be based on the concept of local sections.  Local sections of the American Chemical Society began to form after 1890.  The Indiana section of the American Chemical Society produced a monthly publication called The Accelerator.  The Indiana section of the American Chemical Society is still in existence.  The focus of its efforts appears to be educational outreach.
