Harrison F. Allis was born September 1856 in Indiana, the son of Henry D. and Anna Allis. As a child, he worked at his father’s store in Evansville, Indiana. In 1872, Allis began taking classes at Hanover College, in Hanover, Indiana. After finishing school, he returned to Evansville, where he lived until his death January 8, 1919 in Evansville.
This collection contains letters sent to Harrison F. Allis by friends and family while he was studying at Hanover College. The letters detail life in Evansville and what his friends and family were doing. H. D. Allis, Harrison F. Allis’ father, makes a brief mention in his first letter about an earthquake that struck nearby. His friend, Pussy Walter, recounts a visit and speech given by President Wilson. James (Jim) also writes to Allis trying to convince him to take a job in Topeka, Kansas.
