Thaddeus Butler was editor and publisher for newspapers in Wabash, Wabash County, (1872-1884), and Andrews and Huntington, Huntington County, Indiana (1884-1914). Butler also served as special agent, Office of Indian Affairs, U.S. Department of the Interior, to make payment of annuities and take a census of the Miami Indians (1880-1882)
This collection consists principally of Butler’s papers relating to his work with the Miami Indians (1880-1882). Included are his correspondence and instructions from the Office of Indian Affairs, and copies of his censuses and payment records for the Miami Indians in Indiana, Kansas, the Indian Territory (Oklahoma), and other areas.
