Biographical Note:

Leon F. Hesser was born in August 1925.  He is the oldest child of George and Madonna Hesser and grew up in Winchester, Indiana.  Leon served in World War II and participated in the battle of Zig-Zag Pass in the Philippines in February 1945.  Mr. Hesser is also the author of the book titled, The Taming of the Wilderness: Indiana’s Transition from Indian Hunting Grounds to Hoosier Farmland.

Scope and Content Note:

The collection consists of a two-page paper titled, “My Devotion” which Mr. Hesser presented at a meeting of Methodist Men at the North Naples United Methodist Church in Naples, Florida on October 21, 2002. The paper describes a few of his World War II experiences including the battle of Zig-Zag Pass.
