James Badollet was born in Greensburg (Pennsylvania?) on the Monongahela River in 1796. He migrated with his family to Knox County, Indiana in 1806, and settled near Vincennes. Badollet served in the war of 1812 for seven years. He married Malinda McClure, who was born in Kentucky in 1800, on January 18, 1820; they had ten children together. Badollet died in 1873.

Some of the documents are in French and some are in English. For the most part, the documents are records of transactions regarding tracts of land in Knox County, Indiana.
