Historical Note:

The State Council of Defense was organized on May 19, 1917 to coordinate Indiana activities during World War I.  It was created by Governor James P. Goodrich at the request of the National Council of National Defense at Washington, D.C. 

The members of the State Council included, Charles W. Fairbanks, Thomas Taggart, H. R. Kurrie, Arthur W. Brady, Carolyn, R. Fairbanks, Will H. Hays, Evans Woolen, Isaac Straus, George Ade Brook, Will G. Irwin, James L. Keach, Dr. Charles P. Emerson, Charles Fox, A. E. Reynolds, Morton Wilson, Will J. Freeman, Nathan Squibb and Rev. A. B. Storms.

Scope and Content Note:

This collection contains notes on the State Council of Defense compiled by George W. Stout for Dr. Oliver.
