William Henry Blodgett was born on February 7, 1857, on a houseboat operated by his father between LaSalle, Illinois, and Chicago. At the age of 19, Blodgett came to Indiana, where he worked as a clerk in Anderson and later worked with a newspaper in Richmond. During his last 37 years, Blodgett worked for The Indianapolis News.
