Biographical Note:

Fred Elwood Dillard was a school teacher in French Lick, Orange County (1914-1950’s).  He owned property in Patoka Township, Crawford County, and lived near Birdseye, Dubois County.  Dillard served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War 1.

Scope and Content Note:

Included are WWII letters to and from Dillard’s son Max (1920-1943), a pilot with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific, and son Charles with the Air Transport Command. Max Dillard’s Indiana University records and miscellaneous military service also included.  In addition, Fred Dillard’s reminiscences, postcards from European travels, and family history with scrapbook records and newspaper clippings are in the collection.  Collection also includes Crawford County tax receipts.
