Public PC Security Policy

In accordance with fulfilling the mission of the Indiana State Library and maintaining compliance with IOT mandated information technology security policies for all Indiana state agencies, the Indiana State Library must maintain and enforce certain policies and procedures regarding public use of ISL computer terminals as well as public use of the ISL network.

Regarding the use of public access terminals and removable storage media:

  1. No outside removable storage media devices are to be used on ISL equipment; this includes floppy diskettes, USB flash drives, etc., unless said storage device has been scanned for viruses by ISL staff.  Each time the media device is removed from ISL premises and brought back by the patron, it will need to be re-scanned.

  2. If a patron so desires, they may purchase a floppy diskette from the reference desk for $1.00.  If the patron wishes to return the following day and complete further work using this floppy diskette, he or she may leave the floppy diskette at the Reference desk for safekeeping or upon returning to ISL request ISL staff to scan the diskette for viruses.  Once the floppy diskette is removed from ISL premises it is no longer acceptable for use on ISL equipment until it has been scanned for viruses.

This policy is crucial to ISL maintaining a secure and reliable network for use by our patrons in the interest of preventing corruption of the network or ISL equipment by viruses, worms, Trojans, and other malicious software.
