In my office, we have a small staff with a particularly strong military presence. I've got an Army wife, a Navy officer, an Air Guard Reservist and the girlfriend of a National Guardsman on staff. So supporting our military is a big priority for us - it's personal. We're always looking for ways to keep morale up, and we've found one of the best ways for us to do that is through the mail.
Last month, I wrapped up my second holiday letter campaign encouraging Hoosiers to write cards to our country's servicemen and women overseas. "Hoosier Cheer for Our Heroes" gave Hoosiers the opportunity to send their thoughts and prayers to U.S. troops spending the season away from their homes and loved ones.
The level of support and participation in this year's campaign was outstanding. My office received more than 11,000 letters and cards. That more than doubles the original goal of 5,000 cards. They came from church groups, Scout troops, school classes and individuals from all across Indiana, and even out of state.
I was deeply touched by the generosity of those who gave their time to help with the campaign. The number of cards and letters we received shows just how thankful Hoosiers are for our U.S. servicemen and women stationed abroad.

Thanks to everyone who participated in this year's "Hoosier Cheer for our Heroes" campaign. People from across the state - and across the country - helped make it a huge success. Together we will bring the warmth of the holiday season to our troops abroad.
