Inaugural Borst Fellow Begins Work in the Senate
(STATEHOUSE)— Benjamin Tooley of Brownsburg recently began a fellowship at the Indiana Senate. Tooley is the first participant in the Lawrence M. Borst Fellowship in Public Finance.
Tooley is a graduate student in IUPUI's School of Public and Environmental Affairs. He is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Public Affairs, which he expects to complete in 2007. He is a 2004 graduate of Wabash College.
This addition to the Senate's internship program was created by former Senator Lawrence M. Borst, who was Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee for nearly three decades.
“I am very excited about this opportunity,” Tooley said. “Working directly with legislators and staff will be a very practical learning experience.”
The fellowship is a one-year experience consisting of a 20-hour work week during the fall semester while the student is enrolled full-time in graduate school, and a full-time work week during the spring semester.
The program is administered by SPEA and the Senate Internship program. SPEA graduate students are encouraged to apply. For more information on the fellowship, contact Mr. Luke Bickel at (317) 278-0308 or lbickel@iupui.edu
This program is an addition to the existing Senate internship program. During the spring semester, which coincides with legislative session, each caucus selects interns to work full-time during the session.
