Becker said she was both honored and humbled by this recognition.

Arc of Indiana Honors Sen. Becker with Lifetime Achievement Award: State Sen. Vaneta Becker (l) meets with Executive Director John Dickerson (c) and Associate Executive Director Kim Dodson (r) from the Arc of Indiana after receiving the group’s 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award on Thursday, Oct. 6. This leading advocacy association for Hoosiers with disabilities honored Becker (R-Evansville) for her commitment to improve the lives of all Hoosiers, specifically citing her work for women and children as well as the elderly, poor and disabled. Becker said one of her goals as a legislator is to continue fighting for public policies that benefit those unique Hoosier individuals and families.

Sen. Becker Receives Human Services Award: David Sklar of Indiana Coalition for Human Services (ICHS) presents State Sen. Vaneta Becker (R-Evansville) with the Oscar McCulloch Social Concerns Award on Tuesday, Aug. 23. Sklar said Becker received the award — the most prestigious given by ICHS — because her work as senator has made long-term contributions to improve the lives of Hoosiers, especially those who are “vulnerable and underserved.” She is just the 14th person to receive the honor since it was established in 1989. “It was truly a privilege to accept the Oscar McCulloch Social Concerns Award,” Becker said. “It inspires and motivates me to continue working alongside Hoosiers to make Indiana a better place.”

Ian Hauer of Newburgh Named “Top Intern” by Senate Republicans: Ian Hauer (c) of Newburgh celebrates with (from left to right) Sens. Brent Steele (R-Bedford), Vaneta Becker (R-Evansville) and John Waterman (R-Shelburn) for being named among 39 of his peers as the 2011 session’s top Senate Republican intern on Tuesday, April 26. Hauer, who works for both Steele and Waterman, was elected by fellow interns and chosen by GOP senators to receive the $1,000 Rick Gudal Memorial Scholarship, named after a former Senate staffer. Becker, who represents Newburgh, said Hauer goes above and beyond his Senate duties.
