For Students & Educators > Page Program Page Program

The Indiana Senate provides educational opportunities during legislative sessions to students from 6th grade through 12th grade.

Page Program Students in the sixth grade and above are encouraged to serve as pages for their state senator at the State Capitol. The one-day page program begins with orientation at 8:30 a.m., followed by a tour of the Capitol and the Senate chamber. Pages' lunchtime is supervised by a staff member in the government North cafeteria. However, students 16 years of age and older may sign themselves out for lunch. Pages 15 years and younger may be signed out for lunch by a parent or guardian (a number of restaurants and cafeterias are accessible via underground tunnel, thus not requiring pages to cross downtown Indianapolis streets).  After lunch, pages are guided to the Senate chamber for the 1:30 p.m. floor session. While on the Senate floor, pages assist senators with errands and have their photo taken with the senator for whom they are paging. Pages are dismissed for the day at 3:30.  Days available to page are every Monday, Tuesday or Thursday during session.

Apply online or send a letter to your senator expressing a desire to serve as a page for a day.

The number of pages per day is limited; therefore, students are urged to apply early. When the application or letter is processed, the student will receive confirmation of his or her scheduled date to serve. Due to the flexible nature of the Senate floor schedule, the Senate is unable to accommodate requests for specific dates.

Letters can be addressed to the senator, c/o Indiana Senate, State of Indiana, 200 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46204-2785. Please refer to the Senate map if you are uncertain in which Senate district you reside.

*Paging is now over for the 118th long session of the Indiana General Assembly.  Students can apply for the 118th short session beginning in December 2013.  Please check back in December to apply.  Thank you!
