The Indiana Senate Republican Caucus offers paid, spring-semester internships to college undergraduates, graduate students and recent college graduates. Interns work directly with Indiana legislators at the statehouse, located in downtown Indianapolis. This internship is a unique opportunity to gain practical knowledge of state government through active participation in the legislative process.

    
        

Who is Eligible?

  • Senate Republican internships are open to undergraduate sophomores, juniors, seniors and recent college graduates. Graduate and law school students are also eligible for consideration.

  • All majors are encouraged to apply and no previous political or government experience is required.

  • Qualified applicants will have a strong academic record as well as demonstrate excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills. Additionally, successful candidates project a positive, professional attitude, are highly motivated and easily directed, and can effectively manage a rigorous workload in a fast-paced, often unpredictable work environment.

What are the Benefits?

  • Interns earn a $700 biweekly stipend.

  • Interns may be eligible to earn academic credit through their college or university.

  • Interns may apply for academic scholarships through the Verizon Communications and Gudal Scholarship Funds.

  • Interns have the opportunity for networking in a professional environment.

What are the Duties?

The Indiana State Senate internship is a full-time position which begins with a mandatory orientation in late December and concludes at the end of the legislative session, either in late March or April. Legislative interns are paired with one to two state senators and work with legislative assistants to perform a variety of tasks. Communications interns work with press secretaries, policy analysts or multi-media specialists in the Senate Communications Office.
