A dedicated public servant, State Senator Jim Lewis has spent a lifetime working to improve the lives of Hoosiers.
Elected to the Indiana Senate in 1974, after serving four years in the Indiana House of Representatives, Lewis served as the Senate's Democrat Caucus Chairperson from 1988 until 2007.
Lewis serves as the ranking Democrat on the Natural Resources Committee. He also serves on the Insurance & Financial Institutions; Agriculture & Small Business; Homeland Security, Transportation & Veteran Affairs; Ethics; and Appointments and Claims standing committees.
Before his election to state office, he held several positions at the local level including serving on the Charlestown City Council and as a Clark County Councilman.
Jim Lewis attended Purdue University before moving on to become a building contractor in his self-owned business, Lewis Construction Company. He is now retired and enjoys spending time with his wife, Anna Mae, his three adult boys, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
