    My Biography

    A dedicated community leader and public advocate, State Senator Sue Errington has spent much of her life working to bring people together to get things done.

    First elected to the State Senate in November of 2006, Errington has a long record of public service. She has served on the Delaware County Council, the Mayor's Affirmative Action Task Force, the Mayor's Advisory Committee on Health Education, the City-County Commission Against Domestic Violence, the Delaware County Community Corrections Board, the Muncie Housing Authority and the Muncie Action Plan (MAP).

    She has also volunteered with local, state and national organizations advancing women's rights and good government including the National Organization for Women (NOW), the Muncie-Delaware County Coalition of Women's Organizations, the League of Women Voters, and American Association of University Women. She also serves on the board of the Second Harvest Food Bank of East Central Indiana. In 2007 Errington was awarded the Athena Award from the Women in Business Unlimited. In 2008, Errington was honored with the Ball State University Perham Women of Achievement Award for Distinction in Public Advocacy.

    In the State Senate, Errington is a leading proponent of adequately funding Indiana's schools, making college more affordable and making health care more accessible and affordable for all Hoosiers.

    Errington currently serves as the ranking Democrat on the Senate's Health and Provider Services Committee, a member of the Senate Utilities and Technology; Education and Career Development; and Energy and Environmental Affairs standing committees as well as the Public Health Subcommittee. Errington also serves on the Indiana Prenatal Substance Abuse Commission, and on the Select Joint Commission on Medicaid Oversight; and Health Finance Commission interim committees. Errington is also a member of the Education Round Table.

    Active in several national organizations, Errington is appointed to serve on the Health Committee and the Environmental Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures, a bipartisan organization that serves the legislators and staffs of the nation's 50 states, its commonwealths and territories. She also serves on the Council of State Governments' Midwestern Legislative Conference Health and Human Services Committee. She is currently one of four State Directors from Indiana to act as a delegate for Women in Government, a national bipartisan organization of women state legislators. Errington also is a 2009 Fellow of the Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development (BILLD), having been chosen as one of 37 select lawmakers to participate in the training program that annually identifies and assists promising state leaders in the Midwest.

    A graduate of Indiana University, Errington earned her master's degree from the University of Michigan. Prior to her retirement, she taught Spanish for many years and served as the Public Policy Director for Planned Parenthood of Indiana.

    Errington lives in Muncie with her husband Paul, a retired Ball State physics professor. Together, they have raised two daughters, Sara and Amy and have two grandchildren, Adelaide and Tyler.
