The Committee is charged with the responsibility of determining the best use of the Central State
property. The CSAC is to act upon any recommendations of the Governor as to selling, leasing or
transferring possession of any part of the real property constituting the grounds of Central State
Hospital. SB 215-1998 amended the original legislation to require the Committee to obtain the
following information:
(1) The number of adults with mental illness or mental retardation.
(2) The number of adults with mental illness or mental retardation confined by the Department of
Correction (DOC).
(3) The number of adults with mental illness or mental retardation who will be released by the
DOC and require services for mental illness or mental retardation.
(4) The number of adults with mental illness or mental retardation in county jails.
(5) The number of adults with mental illness or mental retardation who will require services for
mental illness.
(6) The number of adults with mental illness who require services but will not receive adequate
services and the reasons for the lack of needed services.
(7) The requirements for services and types of placements needed for all adults with mental
illness.
(8) The number of beds required to serve adults with mental illness.
